SB 95 – Hospital Price Transparency

I believe patients deserve transparency and fairness in health care billing.

That’s why I introduced Senate Bill 95, known as the Hospital Price Transparency Act. This legislation would reinforce actions taken at the federal level, by President Donald Trump and others, to ensure shoppable medical services have their prices publicly posted for consumers to review before purchasing.

It would also prohibit hospitals from collecting debt if they fail to publish standard charge information. My goal is to empower patients with clear, up-front pricing so they can compare options and avoid surprise medical bills.

When patients have the tools to make informed decisions about their care, health care providers are incentivized to compete, which can result in lower costs.

My bill passed the Senate earlier this year, earning broad, bipartisan support. It now awaits a hearing in the Michigan House of Representatives.
